Balenciaga to debut AW20 collection via a video game
FOR their much-anticipated Aw21 collection, Balenciaga is to unveil Afterworld/The Age of Tomorrow, an “innovative and record-breaking video game” set to debut on December 6, at 2 pm.
Setting the record for the largest volumetric video project ever undertaken, the “allegorical adventure” has been imagined in 2031 and provides an in-depth look at the new collection. Revolving around the theme of human destiny, Afterworld – accessible and shareable from any device – allows players to explore different distinct zones, the narrative fueled by tasks and virtual interactions the hero avatar must complete. For skilful players who manage to beat the game, the reward is a real-life breathing exercise set in a “virtual utopia.”
“The narrative of Afterworld is anchored to mythological pasts and projected futures with timeless archetypes and speculative imagery,” says Balenciaga. “The world may appear to be decaying at first, but it is far from a dystopia in view, showing, instead, the slow return to a healthier balance of nature and industry.”
