Nike and Jordan celebrate Chinese New year with a special collection
QUESTIONING what a sensory explanation of tradition looks like, Nike and Jordan are interpreting their answers through special new colour-ways and materials. Inspired by three main themes, the explosive firecracker, the artisanal Chinese knot and the beautiful spring blossoms, each shoe and item of clothing in the collection is fully immersed in the culture.
The Nike Dunk’s, both the OG and the Low Disrupt, are part of the firecracker assortment with vibrant colours and wrinkle-paper textures finished with fuse-style laces.
While the Nike Escape Run get in touch with floral themes, representing peonies, orchids and amongst other flowers to represent good fortune for 2021.
With the Chinese knot assortment representing unity, the Kyrie 7 and SuperRep2 are reimagined with woven detailing, along with the more casual, day-to-day shapes of the Air Max 2090 and Blazer Mid 77 also mirroring this design.
The tongue tags feature old custom logos that have been altered to look like temple fair tickets with a looped design of a knot.
The Air Jordan V Low makes a comeback with red and sail colours with firecracker design underneath similar to the new Air Jordan XXXV. With 2021 being the Year of the Ox, a jacquard pattern with foil detailing is used on the Air Jordan 1 Low OG in red and black and a removable bracelet that has a gold tassel to symbolise good luck.
Both Nike and Jordan are releasing clothing collections to match the new shoes to help celebrate Chinese New Year!
