Glass reviews David Koma’s Pre Fall 2021 collection
AT A time where distance is infused in all parts of our lives, fashion continues to spark our imaginations with clothes designed for a world where we can experience all the things we miss. David Koma’s pre-fall 2021 collection blurs the lines between comfort and fantasy, for a lust for life and the reality of our lives at home.
For his first-ever pre-fall collection, the Georgian designer is taking inspiration from the British royal family. Living in London, his adopted home has become a continual source of inspiration for his clothes, from the capital’s skyline to now, being the style of HRH Elizabeth II.
Looking beyond the royal attire of Her Majesty, David Koma looks at the Queen’s love for the equestrian sport and the longevity of the style of the late Lady Diana.
Contrasting athletic wear with opulent evening attire, the pre-fall Koma girl is the perfect juxtaposition of British culture. Sophistication and elegance are key in each look whilst remaining truly contemporary – using the traditional notes of British fashion as an influence.
Scuba structured wool and handkerchief sleeves are contrasted with draped satin, soft ribbed knit and feminine tulle. Taffeta is introduced in volumes as a nod to Diana, while polo top collars and horse-shoe cut-outs pay homage to the Queen’s love for riding.
Crystal hardware is a reoccurring element to all of Koma’s collections ensuring that the extravagance of evening-wear is always included and now, become a staple to a Koma piece. This collection introduces leather bags with this embellishment to add another dimension to cocktail dresses, giving them the urban London edge.
The David Koma Pre Fall 2021 woman is modern at mind and resilient in nature – and she definitely has fun.
