Glass reviews the Chanel Lipscanner – their innovative new-generation make-up app
CHANEL fans, rejoice. A new make-up app by the luxury French Maison – launched today – allows users to discover and test the House’s exquisite beauty products from wherever you are.
Powered by next-generation AI and AR technology, Lipscanner can identify any shade of lipstick from any image and instantly find a corresponding Chanel product for an effortless virtual try-on.
A world-first exclusive for the brand, Lipscanner was created in a collaboration between the Chanel Makeup Creation Studio and the Chanel CX Lab team.
Offering over 400 of Chanel’s most iconic shades – ranging from matte and satin to gloss finishes – the ultra-chic app allows users to purchase their favourite products on the Chanel website, as well as share their matches with friends.
So, how does it work? Simply scan your chosen colour from the lips of a model in a photograph, poster, magazine, social media post, or even someone in real life, and the app will match it to the closest shade from Chanel’s extensive range of lip products.
Using augmented reality, Lipscanner then renders the corresponding products onto the face, granting customers the ability to try-on the closest possible match to their desired colour and finish.
“Lipscanner combines our make-up savoir-faire with AI to bring Chanel’s entire range of lip products to our customers’ fingertips in real-time. Instant colour matching is the result of intensive algorithm-training, to be extremely fast at proposing the relevant Chanel lipstick,” says Cédric Begon, Director of the Connected Experience Lab at Chanel Fragrances and Beauty.
“You can then enjoy the emotion of trying the product on yourself and the connection with your initial desire for a colour or a look. Whether you want to feel more powerful, confident, or beautiful, Lipscanner can help you realise any given lipstick desire in real-time. It’s the closest thing to applying lipstick in person.”
