THROUGHOUT the pandemic, all aspects of fashion have been re-evaluated, from the traditional show schedule, to our manner of consumption. So, what will post-pandemic dressing look like? It appears MM6 Maison Margiela has the answer with its Resort 2022 collection. Each designer worked on the collection from their separate locations, uniting their sketches to form a fantastical collection that aligned perfectly with our curious times.
Vivid orange-hued jackets were paired with high-waisted trousers of the same fabric, while a webbing clip belt was sewn into the waistband of another pair in inky black. A sleeveless shirt vest spilled over a pair of flared trousers, tied around the waist with the deconstructed shirt sleeves.
Elsewhere, Margiela abandoned the restrictions of silhouette, incorporating exaggerated wide-leg denim jeans, alongside tailored blazers, which can be worn single or double-breasted through a distinctive 3-button placement.
It also appears that Margiela was questioning our sense of perception, a pair of blue jeans seemed to be tied with shoelaces, but are actually constructed with a trim fitted waist, while a top printed with a lock of hair seemed to deceive the eye into believing it was realistically cascading along the neckline.
For accessories, the folded form of the Japanese bag is crafted in pastel green twill and smooth monochrome leathers, while the 6 stamp motif returns as debossed chevalier rings and button earrings.
