First launched as a digital platform with the intention of driving art to become more accessible, Avant Arte has now amassed an Instagram community of over 2.4 million followers, expanding into authentic offline encounters, exhibitions and studio visits.
The founders of Avant Arte – Christian Luiten and Curtis Penning – have established themselves as a fresh and disruptive duo in the art realm, collaborating with world-leading artists such as Cai Guo-Qiang, Jenny Holzer, Yue Minjun and James Jean.
WoP will be Avant Arte’s first exhibition in Asia in collaboration with Woaw Gallery. As physical exhibitions slowly become possible once again, each work on paper will visualise the artists’ hand movements, offering a tangible and joyous opportunity to reconnect with the rawness of art.
WoP will be exhibiting close to 50 original works from 24 artists, both burgeoning and established talents from across the globe. The exhibited works will be accompanied by a selection of recently released sculpture editions from Alake Shilling, Hebru Brantley, James Jean and Joakim Ojanen.
The show displays the disparate emotions and experiences of each artist as they operate under lockdown, resulting in an eclectic presentation of artwork that seethes with restless creativity.
Speaking of the exhibition, Christian Luiten, co-founder of Avant Arte, commented, “ever since Kevin and I met we’ve always talked about doing something together. He has a great eye for art and is such an important influence for younger people to become interested in visual culture. It’s an honour to curate a show for his gallery, and great to be exhibiting in Hong Kong close to so many of our collectors and collaborators.”
