Annabel’s celebrates Frieze London 2021 with presentation of previously unseen works by Damien Hirst
As art lovers rejoice at the arrival of Frieze London 2021, Mayfair’s world-renowned private members club Annabel’s has joined forces with the iconic English Artist Damien Hirst to debut an exclusive presentation of previously unseen works curated by Hirst himself.
A pioneer in the realms of installation and sculpture, Hirst – one of the Young British Artists who dominated the UK’s art scene during the 1990s – uses his extraordinary talents to explore the complex relationships between art, religion, science, life and death.
On display until October 24, members and guests will be able to discover Hirst’s incredible sculptures displayed throughout Annabel’s gilded interiors.
A curated selection of unseen pieces from Hirst’s Gold and Silver Treasures series appear throughout the club. First unveiled in 2017, the collection presents sculptural relics from a fictional shipwreck off the coast of East Africa, weaving an intricate tale of “seafaring exploits, marine excavation, and laborious research,” says Annabel’s.
In the club’s reception, guests are greeted by the magnificent formaldehyde artwork Peace. Seven further works of art can also be discovered throughout the expansive rooms, from Hathor, displayed on the mantelpiece in the Rose Room, to Hirst’s fun reimagining of Disney’s beloved Minnie and Goofy characters, sculptured out of pink Portuguese marble and encrusted with colourful blooms of delicately painted barnacles.
Welcoming the arrival of Frieze 2021 in unparalleled grandeur, the private members club notes that the collaboration furthers,“Annabel’s legacy for celebrating culture, fine art and opulence since its foundation in 1963, the partnership with Damien Hirst toasts to the club’s creative heritage presenting one of England’s most acclaimed contemporary artists to their members and guests this October.”
