Jil Sander collaborates with Arc’teryx on capsule collection designed for the outdoors
COLLIDING German contemporary fashion with Canadian high-performance outdoor wear, Jil Sander partners with Arc’teryx on a special unisex womenswear, menswear and unisex capsule collection.
Designed by creative directors Lucie and Luke Meier, the design duo wanted to create clothing that was manufactured to withstand extreme weather conditions.
Stumbling upon Arc’teryx, a brand that thrives off performance and innovation it seemed like a natural pairing on this snow-sport orientated collection.
Focusing on skiing, snowboarding and other mountain sports, the Meier’s have ensured simplicity, an integral part to their aesthetic, is seen in this clothing.
The capsule collection is comprised of three main jackets, one unisex, one for women and one for men, a pair of unisex trousers and a unisex suit. The colour pattern is muted, only offering three variations: white, black and blue-grey, to reflect the depth of glaciers.
Balancing new silhouettes and volumes, the Arc’teryx side is seen in the use of breathable 3L Gore-text Pro fabric, weatherproof leather as well as the lining is the signature ergonomic patterning with micro-seam tape construction.
“We both grew up spending time in the mountains enjoying winter sports but we could never find garments that balanced high performance with high aesthetic quality” explain the designers. “Eventually, with Arc’teryx, a company we have always admired for their rigor and commitment to research, we had the chance to design them”.
