FOR THE AW22 season, Givenchy designed wearable day-to-day essentials while employing the sensibility of the haute couture atelier. Streetwear staples and sharply tailored pieces work in tandem to create an effortlessly glamorous line up.
Creative Director of Givenchy Matthew M Williams comments, “I really wanted to create a synthesis of powerful, sophisticated femininity, with an interplay of multiple American and Parisian influences, sports and craftsmanship. Next to her stands a contemporary man with an instinct for chic nonchalance. On the runway, both are grounded by a sense of reality.”
There is a varied display of textures and materials, from cotton t-shirts to delicate pearls – a homage to Hubert de Givenchy’s beloved ornamental design aesthetic.
The presentation opens with a model dressed in black layered graphic tees and a mini skirt made out of what appears to be another t-shirt. Straps hung below the dress alongside skin-tight, thigh-high leather boots. The outfit was completed with a tailored slim-cut blazer.
A sleeveless mini-dress, entirely constructed of beaded pearls and metal beads is complemented by a matching chunky choker.
Except for infrequent pops of teal, red, yellow, purple, and a few lighter neutrals – the colour palette of the 70 look lineup primarily consists of black. A utility vest featuring metal hardware and layered over baggy black cargo trousers and a long sleeve shirt was followed by a buttery black leather gown featuring abdomen cutouts and a constructed brassiere chest.
The collection is an eclectic mix of everyday garments and stand-out party dresses. Familiar silhouettes are elevated with luxurious materials, expert craftsmanship and experimental techniques, including 4D print embroidery. Givenchy’s AW22 collection is wearable sophistication at its finest.
