Axel Arigato adds English heritage into capsule with Mulberry collaboration

KNOWN for its minimalistic Scandinavian aesthetic, Swedish fashion label Axel Arigato adds a touch of traditional English heritage to its repertoire with the launch of a special capsule collection with Mulberry. Coming together to create a unisex range of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, the collaboration effortlessly balances both of the brand’s core values and design staples within the 35-pieces.

Starting the creation by diving through the Mulberry archives and exploring contemporary pop culture from the past fifty years, the process began with an adherence to looking at long-standing style that simply won’t go out of fashion. Picking three bags from Mulberry’s past and reworking them for this release, the Oversized Bayswater arrives in its largest iteration to date; the Top Handle bag takes on the Maddison silhouette and the classic Shoulder Bag is designed with evening-wear in mind.

Beyond the bags, clothes took front and centre. Split-colour trench coats, relaxed denim and the adored varsity jackets arrive in neutral tones, while the Area Sneaker comes with the Mulberry Postman lock and strap to give it some edge.

Sealing the collaboration through a simple graphic alteration, the badge weaved throughout the capsule combines half Mulberry’s tree emblem and half of Axel Arigato’s insignia to create a crest that signifies community and partnership.

Speaking on the collaboration, co-founder, Albin Johanson explained; “Although founded in Sweden, since its inception Axel Arigato has been particularly welcomed by the UK, and so to launch a collaboration, a brand firmly embedded in British fashion history, feels like a naturally intuitive partnership to roll out”.

Max Svärdh, the other half of the Swedish design duo concluded; “Our aim is to bring the youthful, percussive energy which informs our design language by reinterpreting Mulberry’s heritage silhouettes through a unique Scandinavian lens”.
